Pico picapinos
Dendrocopos major es una interesante especie en Sierra Nevada, al no estar tan ampliamente distribuida como en otras sierras forestales andaluzas. Y ello a pesar de su gran adaptabilidad tanto a diferentes hábitats como a una amplia dieta alimenticia. De hecho, es complicado observarlo a elevadas altitudes, como ocurre en la presente imagen, obtenida a casi 2.000 m de altitud, sobre un pino silvestre (Pinus sylvestris) quebrado por las duras condiciones climáticas (viento y peso de la nieve) que imperan a dichas cotas. And this despite its great adaptability both to different habitats and to a broad diet. In fact, it is difficult to observe it at high altitudes, as occurs in the present image, obtained at almost 2,000 m altitude, on a Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) broken by the harsh climatic conditions (wind and weight of snow) that prevail at said levels.
