Topillo nival (IV)
Su denominación científica (Chyonomis nivalis) nos habla de una especie de alta montaña. Aunque podemos encontrarla por encima de los 2.100-2.200 m de altitud, realmente donde es posible descubrirla con ciertas garantías de éxito es en sus cumbres. Se trata de una de las joyas faunísticas nevadenses, popular en la literatura divulgativa del macizo pero de bastante difícil observación. Aquí vive aislada del resto de las otras poblaciones ibéricas, ya que Sierra Nevada es con frecuencia una especie de isla solitaria que sirve de refugio postglaciar para muchas especies. En la imagen (realizada con un gran angular mediante disparo a distancia) aparece junto al endémico Senecio nevadensis, a más de 3.000 m de altitud, en la cabecera del río Genil (septiembre 2020). Its scientific name (Chyonomis nivalis) refers to a high-mountain species. Although we can find it above 2,100–2,200 m altitude, it is really only on its peaks that it is most likely to be discovered with some guarantee of success. It is one of the Nevada faunal gems, popular in popular literature about the massif but quite difficult to observe. Here, it lives isolated from the rest of the Iberian populations, as the Sierra Nevada is often a kind of solitary island that serves as a post-glacial refuge for many species.
