Artemisia granatensis, uno de los emblemas botánicos de Sierra Nevada, es una especie exclusiva de esta montaña. La gran fama adquirida por sus virtudes aromáticas y medicinales (para infusiones) la han hecho muy popular, siendo desde antaño altamente codiciada por el hombre, hecho que ha llevado a exquilmar muy seriamente sus poblaciones hasta ser considerada como en peligro de extinción; en la actualidad, se encuentra protegida con diversos grados de protección.
