Unos jabalíes (Sus scrofa) se alimentan en un borreguil de la cabecera del río Dúrcal, a más de 2.400 m de altitud. Uno de las consecuencias de llevar los perros sueltos por parte de los excursionistas (hecho ilgal y por ello punible por parte de la guardería del Espacio Natural de Sierra Nevada) es su efecto sobre la fauna. Un grupo de ovejas (Ovis orientalis aries) pastaba tranquilamente cuando un perro las acosó; su estampida arrastró también a unos ejemplares de cabra montés (Capra pyrenaica subsp. hispanica), que se encontraban más abajo. Los machos pararon tras una relativamente breve carrera, pero las ovejas, que fueron realmente las hostigadas, continuaron su carrera, siendo observadas de cerca por las monteses.
